Mary Czerwinski of MSR reports that large displays are the single easiest way to significantly improve productivity. She reports that users were at least 10% more productive. For an engineer making $100K, a company could extract another $10K/year of work for a small upfront cost of $1K for 2 LCDs. Of course, this result appeals to me because I desperately want to buy another LCD. In this NYTimes story, there’s a picture of Mary with 3 LCDs pivoted into portrait mode. That is such a great and obvious idea. In portrait mode, you can see more code on the screen and you can read without scrolling. If only I weren’t so
cheap frugal, I’d buy a pair for $400/each (refurbished).
